Bush Presidential Center will display 43,000 artifacts when it opens to the public May 1 OriginalArtBroker posted a photo:

The Bush Presidential Center is set to open to the public on May 1st, 2013. There will be more than 43,000 artifacts on display. The exhibit will feature mementos from historic artifacts from President Bush’s time in office as well as notable gifts he received while in office from celebrities, world leaders, and even ordinary citizens.
Highlights of the display will include former President Bush’s iconic megaphone used in a speech after the September 11th attacks in 2001 at ground zero, in which he responded to a crowd member who yelled out “I can’t hear you” by shouting into the megaphone “I can hear you! The rest of the world hears you! And the people who knocked down these building will soon hear all of us!” Also, a baseball thrown out as the first pitch at Yankee Stadium during the World Series of 2001, and 9 mm pistol carrier by Saddam Hussein at the time of his capture by U.S. forces. Jewelry given to the Bush family by the King of Saudi Arabia and a Gibson electric guitar given to the President by B.B. King are also in the collection, as well as a baseball bat signed by 46 of the 62 living members of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. Another one of the collection’s iconic pieces is a Peter Max original portrait of President Bush. As the world’s most famous living pop artist, Max has painted 7 U.S. Presidents. He is famous for his vibrant colors and has become the signature portrait artist of popular culture and one of the most significant artists of the past 50 years.
The artifacts will also include Lance Armstrong racing bikes and autographed jerseys. Although Armstrong’s reputation has recently been sullied by a confession of performance enhancing drug use, the museum still decided to display the artifacts of the Plano, TX native as part of the display. After all, the artifacts were received during the Bush presidency and that is what the museum seeks to honor, not the legacy of Lance Armstrong himself. His artifacts help paint a picture of the landscape at the time of Bush’s Presidency.
Additionally, there will be some artifacts from George W. Bush’s time as Texas Governor as well as his post-Presidential period. Although 43,000 artifacts seems like an enormous number, that barely scratches the surface of the full Bush presidential archive. The items not on displayed will be housed underneath the library in a 65,000 square foot archive. Choosing only 43,000 was a difficult task, and the curators have admitted that a number of interesting artifacts will be left in the basement simply due to space constraints. The 43,000 items on display will also only be temporary, and put out to celebrate the Bush Presidential Library opening. Ultimately, about 50 pieces are expected to remain on permanent display. Although it is not known which pieces will make the cut into the permanent collection, it is expected that the megaphone and Peter Max original painting will be among the finalists for the final 50.

Peter Max’s art pops in Scottsdale OriginalArtBroker posted a photo:

It’s hard to imagine Peter Max, the world’s most famous living pop artist, doing anything else. But surprisingly enough, Max originally planned on becoming an astronomer. He thought of art more as a hobby than a legitimate career path.
Peter Max’s hobby sure worked out better for him than it does for most people. He has become one of the most dominate forces in the art world for the past 50 years. He is a famed portrait artist, capturing everyone from President Obama to Taylor Swift, landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the American Flag, and painted every canvas from a Norwegian Cruise Ship to a Boeing airplane. His massive commercial success in the art world has transformed Peter Max into a celebrity in his own right.
Today, we think of Peter Max as a quintessentially American artist, but his background reveals global roots. Born in Berlin, Germany in 1937, his family fled Nazi persecution by escaping to Shanghai, China. In his youth, Max developed a fascination with the Chinese culture that were generous and supportive of the Max family any other European Jewish immigrants. It was also when Peter Max first became an artist. His father was an amateur artist, and after noticing 3 year old Peter Max’s artistic leanings he encouraged his soon to further explore his talent. His father, Jacob, and his mother, Salla, even hired young Peter Max an art instructor: A 7 year old girl and daughter of a local street artist. She visited Peter Max 7 days a week and the two drew together. Max remembers crying when he had to leave China for Israel in 1948 since it was so difficult for him to part with his beloved art teacher.
Peter Max developed the roots of his career as an artist in Israel, receiving formal training there in art and astronomy. After moving to America, Peter Max began to realize the potential art held to be a full time career.
Today, it’s hard to imagine the 75 year old, established and world-renowned Peter Max as a young child often on the mood and interested in astronomy. But, it’s clear to see how his childhood influences have shaped his artistic style and decisions. He attributes his strong use of line, for example, to Chinese art. His bold colors, to Israeli influences, and the images he creates to American pop-culture. In fact, his 1960s posters which became representative of the counter-cultural movement even show off inter-galactic themes harkening back to his astronomy ambitions. As one of the most successful artist in the world, Peter Mas is also one of the most surprisingly simple: He likes things that things that look good, he likes music, he likes America, and he likes celebrities. Really, he is not so different than you or me. Except of course, for being the best-selling pop artist in the world.
The DeRubeis Fine Art Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ will be showing a Peter Max exhibit and meet-and-greet with the artist on March 23rd from 6-9 P.M. and March 24th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 P.M. to meet with fans and collectors. The artwork displayed at the exhibit will also be for sale. The DeRubeis Fine Art Gallery is located at7171 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, AZ.

Peter Max's celeb art exhibit, sale in Scottsdale OriginalArtBroker posted a photo:

March 23-24, there was an art exhibit and sale celebrating the world’s most famous living pop artist, Peter Max.
Today, Peter Max is best known for his portraits of celebrities, and the show will feature images of Bruce Springsteen, Taylor swift, and others. Although many artists prefer to pain their subjects live, Max paints from photographs. But he does meet each subject and has a vast network of celebrity connections. The artist has said it would require a “ring binder” to give you a run-down of all his celebrity clients and friends. With friends past and present including Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Michael Douglas, and Muhammad Ali, it is no wonder why he’d need that binder. In fact, Peter Max has reached the rare upper echelon of artists who can be considered celebrities themselves.
Max was not always a famous celebrity portrait painter. His career got its start in the 1960s, when Peter Max paintings single handled propelled the poster craze where psychedelic images became iconic representations of the counter-cultural movement. Although many would have been content to continuing churning out what made them famous, Peter Max was both a visionary artist and visionary. He transitioned his subject matter to keep up with the changing times, which created a reputation for Max as not only a great artist, but a pop artist on the cusp of new trends. In the 1970s, he began creating patriotic images like his Liberty Head series. Max also painted a number of world leaders, including six U.S. Presidents. This experience in portraiture soon lent itself to capturing the likeness of other celebrities.
Peter Max has imbedded himself deep within modern popular culture, where he has been a main stay since the 1960s. It is no wonder he is considered the world’s most famous living pop artist, with a career he has managed to morph and stretch into dominance over the genre for more than 50 years. In addition to the posters, monuments, celebrities, and Presidents, he can also add working as the official artist for the Grammy Awards for 6 years, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Kentucky Derby, and more.
Because of his long and varied career, each Peter Max fan has their favorite era. For some, he will forever being the psychedelic, 1960s counter-cultural; for others, he will be the man that brought them Taylor Swift on a canvas. Depending on what piece they see, different people link Max to the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and today. But, throughout all of Peter Max’s career transitions, his style has remained quintessentially Peter Max. The bold, vibrant colors, brushstrokes, and clever use of line, all immediately give away a work of Art as a Max piece. In many ways, Peter Max has it all: An artist that can change with the times to stay fresh and relevant, while also maintaining a signature style. His work is at once always consistent and ever changing. He has a pulse on pop culture, but also a pulse on himself. And maybe that’s what it takes to be the world’ most famous living pop artist.

Norwegian Breakaway Peter Max Cruise Buzz posted a photo:

Norwegian Breakaway at Southampton - 29 April 2013 John Oram posted a photo:

NCL's newest ship, Norwegian Breakaway arrived at Southampton from Rotterdam on 29 April 2013 and was scheduled to depart to New York the following day. It will enter service between New York and Bermuda in early May. I can't say I find it or its Peter Max artwork especially attractive and the thought of being on a cruise with 4000 other passengers is fairly horrifying. The Bermuda route will be operated May - September with October - April seeing the ship further afield in the Bahamas and Florida. I am surprised that the market can sustain such repetition with up to 4000 passengers at a time.
